Simba Mattress Review Review

Our Review

The original Simba Hybrid is the flagship model of the award-winning mattress brand- Simba Sleep. For the record, this mattress is the result of Simba Sleep’s search for the “perfect mattress.”

The team at Simba says it took them 70 prototypes and body data from 10 million sleepers. They say the original Simba Hybrid is the game changer in the mattress industry. Sure enough, this mattress’ construction design is a departure from what we see in typical hybrid mattresses.

But is the original Simba Hybrid mattress any good? We’re always searching for the best mattress to buy. In this Simba Hybrid mattress review, we tell you how this model stacks up against traditional hybrid mattresses.

Simba Mattress Build and Quality

Thickness

The original Simba Hybrid mattress is a five-layer bed with a depth of 25cm. But there’s a kid’s single-size option with a depth of 16cm. The Simba is within the average thickness range of mattresses in the UK.

The perfect mattress depth comes down to personal choice. However, we bet the original Simba Hybrid will tick most boxes for most sleepers in terms of balancing comfort, support, and durability.

Most couples and individual sleepers weighing up to 18 stones will find this depth comfortable. It might also fit the bill if your bed frame is particularly low and you want to add a little extra height to it.

Firmness

The original Simba Hybrid is a medium to medium-firm mattress. We’d say it ranges from 5.5 to 6.5, depending on your weight.

The Simba Hybrid mattress doesn’t feel exactly like most pocket-sprung mattresses. Combining several layers of foam and micro coils gives this mattress a mixed foam feel. It has a notable sinking sensation, making it feel like memory foam. But it has much quicker responsiveness, which makes changing between different sleeping positions easier.

The Simba Hybrid mattress is bouncy but not as much as a typical hybrid mattress, again owing to the size of the coils.

Overall, the Simba Hybrid is a good mattress for multiple sleeping positions. But side sleepers and back sleepers will love it the most. Most stomach sleepers who weigh 16 stones and below will also love it. The mattress may feel a little uncomfortable around the knees at first. But it gets better within a week or two.

Simba Hybrid Mattress Construction

Breathable Hand-knitted Cover

The Simba Hybrid mattress has a removable, washable cover . Apparently, this hand-knitted and breathable cover is also hypoallergenic. That’s to say, it’s gentle and friendly to sleepers with sensitive skin.

Comfort Section

The primary comfort layer of this mattress is graphite-infused Simbatex. This foam resembles memory foam in terms of responsiveness and pressure relief. However, its open-cell design and graphite infusion mean it sleeps cooler than traditional Visco elastic foam.

Aerocoil Spring Comfort Layer

Below the comfort layer is a system of cone-shaped Aerocoils. With a height of 25mm, these coils are considerably shorter than typical individually wrapped coils that can be up to 6cm tall. The advantage of this size is that these Aerocoils are able to distribute your weight and enhance pressure relief while reducing motion transfer. Actually, motion transfer is one of the major areas where the Simba Hybrid mattress beats its competitors.

Edge to Edge Transition Layer

Next comes a responsive transition layer engineered with Simba’s Edge Lift Technology. This high-definition foam is designed to keep you supported regardless of where you sleep on the mattress. This is an added advantage, particularly if you prefer sleeping as close to the edge of your bed as possible.

Base Layer

The support base of this mattress is a layer of dense polyurethane foam. This layer is multi-zoned. It offers your mid-body section more support while allowing more give to your upper and lower areas. Basically, this zoning ensures that your back stays in a neutral alignment to alleviate back pain and improve sleep quality.

Trial, Return, and Warranty Policies

One-Year Sleep Trial

The Simba Hybrid is a mail-order, bed-in-a-box mattress with a one-year trial period. If you decide to return the Simba within this time frame, the manufacturer will collect it from your home free of charge.

Warranty

If you love your new mattress, Simba will back it up with a 10-year warranty. Simba warranty covers cracks on the foam, significant dippings, and faulty zips. If your mattress develops an issue that could be linked to the manufacturer within this period, Simba Sleep will replace it with a new one.

What Other Reviewers Say

There’s plenty of positive reviews for the original Simba Hybrid mattress online. It has received close to 160k reviews and an average star rating of 4.8/5 on the manufacturer’s website. While some are certainly biased, most users report that the Simba was remarkably comfy and supportive.

Regarding pain relief, some reviewers say their muscles and joints aren’t sore, so they sleep better. The majority of users also appreciate how the Simba Hybrid isolates motion to prevent disturbance.

While most of the feedback is positive, there are negative ones, too. Several reviewers noted that the mattress was slightly firmer than they expected. Others report that the mattress had a strong chemical smell. This is typical of foam-based mattresses. But its CertiPUR certification means that it has been thoroughly tested to establish that it’s safe.

Conclusion

Is the Simba Hybrid a good mattress? In our opinion, YES. The original Simba Hybrid is a comfortable, supportive mattress that doesn’t sleep hot. We recommend this mattress to all sleepers, particularly side and back sleepers. It’s not a true hybrid mattress owing to the size of its coil system. For that reason, we’d not recommend it to heavy stomach sleepers looking for a mattress with more support.
